From the Richard Free Press: By Jon DePaolis MOKENA, Ill. — The Village of Mokena Board of Trustees voted unanimously Monday, Sept. 28, to award a contract for a project involving the replacement of storm sewer piping on Hummingbird Lane. The trustees awarded the contract to Copenhaver Construction — a company based in Gilberts, Illinois — in the amount of $177,812. Copenhaver submitted the lowest of the five bids that were received by the Village. Copenhaver's bid was approximately $22,188 — 11% — below what the Village had budgeted for the project, according to Village Staff Engineer Dan Peloquin. "This project consists of replacing approximately 660 feet of storm sewer and ancillary construction … in the rear yards of homes along Hummingbird Lane," Peloquin said. He added that Copenhaver has done work for the Village in the past. Earlier in the meeting, as part of the Consent Agenda, the board members voted 6-0 to approve trick-or-treating hours from 3-7 p.m. on Halloween. "As we are going to have trick-or-treating, we certainly want everybody to enjoy that time safely with their families and with their kids if they choose," Village Administrator John Tomasoski said. "As always, we ask our motorists to be safe, because we do anticipate having kids out on our sidewalks and out on the streets." He also added that if residents do not want to participate in trick-or-treating this year, there is a sign available online that can be printed out and displayed on the resident's door. Physical copies also will be included in the Village's October newsletter and at Village Hall. Tomasoski also updated the Village Board on the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Mokena as reported by the Will County Department of Public Health. He said there have been 331 total cases. Trustee George Metanias asked if there were any deaths related to those cases. "None that I'm aware of," Tomasoski responded.
