BROOKFIELD, CT —Firefighters and police from multiple area agencies chased down a kayak gone rogue over the weekend. Police were notified Sunday morning of a capsized kayak with a life jacket attached floating in Lake Lillinonah with no one in sight. When the first responding officer arrived at the Bridgewater Bridge boat launch and spotted a pickup truck with a kayak rack on top with no kayaks, an emergency response was triggered. The response included members of the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department, Newtown Underwater Search & Rescue, Newtown Hook & Ladder, the Connecticut Environmental Conservation Police, the Danbury Fire Department and the New Milford Police Department. The teams tracked the kayak to an area of the lake not easily accessible from land. Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company officials speculated the boat had broken loose in the high winds Saturday. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and is safe and sound, but the owner of the kayak is still unknown. There is no reason to believe anyone is missing, according to BVFC officials.
