Steelers Acquire New Quarterback

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Steelers appear to have found at least a short-term answer to replace recently retired quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. The team is signing Mitchell Trubisky, a former overall number two selection in the NFL draft, to a two-year contract. Trubisky, who spent last season as Josh Allen's backup with the Buffalo Bills, told ESPN that he chose the Steelers over the New York Giants for his next career step. "I am beyond excited and blessed for the opportunity to be a part of the Pittsburgh Steelers organization," Trubisky told ESPN's Adam Schefter. "I have tremendous respect for the Rooney family and coach (Mike) Tomlin. They have built one of the best rosters in football, and I can't wait to contribute and help this team continue their success." Trubisky, who started at the University of North Carolina, almost certainly will be the starter over the three quarterbacks currently on the Steelers roster: Mason Rudolph, Dwayne Haskins and Joshua Dobbs. He spent four seasons with the Chicago Bears and was a Pro Bowl selection in his second season. He signed with Buffalo for the 2021 season and sat behind Allen, one of the NFL's top quarterbacks.
