MOKENA, IL — An attempted vehicle hijacking was reported Sunday at a gas station in Mokena, police said in a release. Police responded to an attempted aggravated vehicular hijacking at 5:19 p.m. Sunday at Shell gas station, 19100 S. La Grange Road.
As police arrived at the gas station, they also learned that an attempted vehicular hijacking had taken place at Chipotle, 19130 S. La Grange Road, just minutes before.
At the gas station, the victim was trying to enter their vehicle after pumping gas, when a man approached asking for keys to the car, police said in a release. The man, who was holding a hammer, was black, 5'3", in his teens, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and gray pants. A second man also entered the front seat of the victim's car as the victim ran from the scene, telling people nearby to call 911.
Police said both men then entered the vehicle they had arrived in, and fled the scene. The suspects' car, which was reported stolen out of Chicago, was a silver Mazda SUV with Kentucky registration 909ZVZ.
