Poll Result: Most Readers Say Jussie Smollett's Sentence Was Fair

CHICAGO — Former "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett's 150-day jail sentence for five felonies seems fair to an overwhelming majority of Patch online poll respondents. A jury convicted Smollett on five counts of disorderly conduct for orchestrating a fake hate crime against himself and lying to police about it. Last week, Cook County Judge James Linn sentenced Smollett to 150 days in jail, 30 months' probation and to pay the city of Chicago more than $120,000 in restitution and a $25,000 fine. Nearly 72 percent of the more than 7,300 responses to Patch's poll on the sentence said they thought Smollett's punishment was fair. About 11 percent of respondents disagreed. In about 17 percent of responses, folks wrote in that Smollett deserved more additional jail time. More On Patch: Smollett Attorneys Files Emergency Motion To Pause Jail Sentence Late Friday, Smollett's legal team filed an emergency motion asking the Illinois Appellate Court to pause the former "Empire" actor's 150-day jail sentence as he appeals his conviction. Smollett's brother said in an Instagram video that the felonious actor is being held in a psychiatric ward in a cell marked with a sign that says he is "at risk of self harm." Jocqui Smollett said he wants people to know that his brother is stable, strong and is "in no way, shape or form at risk of self harm."
