PHOENIX, AZ — Phoenix police arrested two men on Sunday in connection to an ambush of two officers that morning that left one of the officers shot and the other one injured, according to Phoenix police.
Devonte Thornton, 28, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder, along with drug and weapons offenses, according to arrest documents.

Officers attempted to pull over a car early Sunday morning, but lost sight of it after it drove away. A short time later, the officers spotted the car and attempted to pull it over again. While the patrol car was driving on Maryland Avenue near 27th Street, a person standing along the road shot a "barrage of bullets" at the patrol car, striking the passenger, according to police.
The driver of the car being pulled over tried to flee on foot, but officers responding to the shooting found and arrested him, police said.
