Four Firefighters Test Positive For COVID-19 In Peterborough

PETERBOROUGH, NH - On October 19, 2020 the town of Peterborough announced four members of their department have tested positive for COVID-19. In a letter posted on the Peterborough Fire & Rescue Facebook, Peterborough Fire Chief Walker said "Over the past few days four members of the Peterborough Fire & Rescue have tested positive for COVID-19." The press release provided on the Facebook post offers further details Chief Walker says "This past week one of our call firefighters developed symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and was tested. Upon receiving the positive test result, he notified the department, and we began the process of identifying those members with who he had had close contact. Subsequently three additional members have tested positive, two of whom are asymptomatic." The press release says "Beginning with the initial confirmed case, we have been following the State of New Hampshire's First Responder Unprotected Exposure Guidelines. Based on this guide, we have a total of 12 members who are currently in quarantine or isolation." All department personnel wear N95 masks when interacting with patients at emergency scenes. Walker says this virtually eliminates any risk of patient exposure. Chief Walker says" Despite the providers we have out, with over 60 members on our roster we remain confident that we can continue to deliver the same level of high service that our customers have come to expect from Peterborough Fire and Rescue."
