Most Of Merrimack's 4th Of July Events Have Been Canceled

MERRIMACK, NH — July 4 events across the country will not look the same this year thanks to the new coronavirus. Many communities have been forced to cancel their annual Fourth of July events, including Merrimack. The Rotary Club of Merrimack made the difficult decision to cancel events earlier this month after "long and hard consideration," including waiting as long as possible to make a decision. "The health and well-being of everyone in our community is paramount," the org said on its website. The annual pancake breakfast, parade, patriotic concert, and family-oriented event are all canceled. The fireworks are canceled, too, but the town is going to consider holding fireworks in September and creating a new festival at that time. The Sparkler 5K Roadrace, however, is going virtual, from June 28, to July 4. The signup information is here. Unfortunately, a lot of parks in town are still closed. But the skateboard park, athletic fields, and volleyball courts have reopened. Basketball courts are expected to reopen later this month.
