Maria Fire In Ventura County 50 Percent Contained; Evacs Lifted

SANTA PAULA, CA — Firefighters have contained the Maria Fire burning in Ventura County to 50 percent and no buildings are threatened by the blaze any longer, fire officials said in a Sunday morning update. In a summary, officials said that cooler temperatures and lighter winds helped moderate fire behavior. The fire has burned just 9,400 acres and two structures have been destroyed, officials said. Officials are out in the area of the fire to determine the full extent of the damage. All evacuation warnings and order have been lifted. Officials are expecting the fire to be fully contained by November 8. Power remains shut off to just 13 customers in Ventura County, according to Southern California Edison. Ventura County school officials said if there are any school closures for Monday, they will be posted online on the Ventura County Office of Education website. The Maria Fire is several miles northeast of the Easy Fire that broke out Wednesday, burning 1,700 acres. The region endured the worst Santa Ana windstorm in more than a decade this week and has been beset by wildfires including last week's Tick Fire in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys as well as the Getty Fire that destroyed nearly a dozen Brentwood homes this week.
