MERRIMACK, NH — Samantha Searles, a Merrimack resident, organized a rally to bring people together to share their messages and advocate change. The rally was held at Abbie Griffin Park in Merrimack and attracted hundreds of participants Friday. Most of the participants speaking to the crowd were residents of Merrimack, and shared personal stories about racism they experienced in town and at school. The speakers took turns at the microphone set up in the gazebo where supporters spread across the lawn of the park, and on the hill listening to the presenters. Many of the speakers who were residents spoke about the negative comments which had been shared on various Merrimack social media forums. Most of the participants we spoke to were Merrimack residents and this was their first rally they attended. State Sen. Melanie Levesque, D-Brookline, spoke about some of the changes in New Hampshire that occurred Friday and that progress was moving forward. The crowd was peaceful and a diverse group of ages. No police officers were visible in the immediate area but Merrimack police assisted with traffic for the event. Merrimack is one of many communities across New Hampshire that have held peaceful rallies this week. Expanded photo gallery Click here ©Jeffrey Hastings www.frameofmindphoto.com/news
