Rise of the Maine Oyster 3.0Each year, we're looking to give people an intimate look at what it's like to be an oyster farmer on the coast of Maine. What is it like to run an oyster business? What does it take to maintain a reliable team? What makes each farm unique? What are the challenges to scaling and finding new markets? How do you improve your practices and where do you go to find new and innovative technologies and methodologies? We start our 2022 EITBE season by taking an in-depth look at the success and challenges of connecting to the consumer through a collaborative approach. We are pleased to be joined by the Basin Oyster Project, New Meadows River Shellfish Co-Op, the Maine Oyster Trail, Lady Shuckers, and the Maine Oyster Company. Attendees will enjoy Oysters, Beverages, and Snacks as well as a conversation with farmers and industry leaders focused on the successes and the remaining challenges associated with connecting to consumers. For the evening's roundtable, we'll be EXPLORING HOW INDUSTRY CONNECTS TO THE CONSUMER THROUGH... Each session is free to attend and includes a curated panel of speakers who share their own intimate and organic perspectives on the topic du jour. Created in 2019, the program’s intent is to convene an engaged audience to raise awareness, promote dialog, and facilitate connections amongst those interested in the region’s blue economy. For 2022, the EITBE series has become a part of Transforming the Blue Economy (TBE), a purpose-driven collaboration created by the World Ocean Observatory, a 501c.3 non-profit, and the New England Ocean Cluster. The project endeavors to advance and modernize New England’s ocean-minded industries through education and community engagement; by bridging the gap between capacity and need; and by assisting in the creation of sustainable and innovative enterprises.
