Description
MERRIMACK, NH - On November 23, 2020 at about 9:33 am Merrimack fire and police responded to a reported structure fire in the area of DW Highway and Church Street. While in route Merrimack Police reported smoke visible from the police station.
On the arrival of the first fire crews they reported heavy fire in the rear of the house, and called for a working fire. Multiple surrounding cities and towns were requested to the scene and for station coverage.
Firefighters worked to quickly knock down the heavy fire in the rear of the building, and began searches in the large house. Crews used ground ladders to access the roof of the structure and begin cutting ventilation holes.
Nashua Fire arrived and set up a ladder truck on the North side of the house to access the roof.
The fire appears to have started outside the rear of the building, and quickly extended up the side of the structure which is more than 100 years old.
The fire is under control and the heavy fire damage appears to be limited to the rear part of the structure, with smoke and water damage extended further into the house.
Merrimack Fire is investigating the cause of the fire. The initial reports indicated a loud explosion, and a neighbor called in the fire.
