Description
A KINDA JEWISH FEAST is just what it sounds like! Maybe its Seder; maybe it's Purim! Maybe you should don a costume and get fershnickered! Come on an exclusive Jewish culinary journey with us (that also happens to be not Kosher and totally INclusive). The evening will start at 6pm with light libations and snacks. WARNING: There will be klezmer music. At 7 pm everyone will sit as a family, as G-d intended. We'll start off with a light nosh of cured things, pickled things, and baked things. Remember when sharing to tear and not cut. The first leg of our journey will explore the food of the Ashkenazi tradition stemming from 18th and 19th century Eastern-European villages, or shtetls. If you speak Yiddish, this is the food you eat. Think matzo-ball soup and potato pancakes. Our second wave of food will attempt to encompass the cuisine of the Sephardic Jews. This is the Jewish food of the Iberian Peninsula, which is also heavily influenced by the cuisine of the Middle East, Northern Africa, and even parts of Asia. There will be stews. The third wave of our journey will celebrate the cuisine of the Jew living in the modern American diaspora. What it means to eat Jewish in the United States is evolving at a faster pace than ever. Today you're just as likely to see an egg roll on a deli menu as you are a good corned beef, and that's great! Also, matzo pizza. And then there is dessert...Jenn says she's got cheesecake, booze, and fruit on the brain. She also says she likes minotaurs a whole lot. If you're into minotaurs she'll send you home with sweets to-go. She's the best Jewish pastry chef in San Antonio, duh! In the immortal words of Rabbi Tuckman: "Wisdom and council, that's easy. But this is sacramental wine! It's only used to bless things...There's things here..." For blessing purposes, there will be full-bar pairings with every wave of family-style food as well as plenty of Manischewitz punch to go around. (Teetotaler tickets also available upon request.) A portion of sales will benefit Young and Jewish San Antonio, so this party is a mitzvah.
