Morton Arboretum Plans Phased Reopening, Reschedules Exhibition

LISLE, IL — The Morton Arboretum is planning to have a phased reopening starting June 1 for members only in the wake of the current new coronavirus crisis. June 15 is the tentative date for Morton Arboretum to open for non-members. The arboretum also announced that it is postponing its highly anticipated Human + Nature art installation until April 2021. Sign up for Patch news alerts and newsletters. According to a press release, the phased, members-only reopening will take place June 1 though June 14. Morton Arboretum President and CEO Dr. Gerard T. Donnelly, said in the news release, "The Arboretum will continue to monitor and evaluate the ongoing health situation, and may make adjustments to the target reopening date if needed." The Human + Nature exhibit was originally slated to open June 12. The art installation will feature 20- to 25-foot, evocative statues by David Popper, a South African artist. In a statement, Popper said, "I look forward to helping people feel the interconnectedness we have with nature. We just need to get through this unprecedented time safely."
