LISLE, IL — A fire broke out in a five-story apartment in Lisle Tuesday evening, forcing fire crews to rescue some residents from the blaze. The fire was reported around 9 p.m. in a building in the 4700 block of St. Joseph Creek Road, according to a press release from Lisle-Woodridge Fire District headquarters. One resident was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, fire officials said. The press release said the fire started in a first-floor apartment. When fire crews got to the scene, they searched all five floors and helped residents who were still inside escape the smoke and flames. Fire officials say the fire damage was concentrated in the first-floor apartment, but that smoke damage was sustained in other units in the building. In total, the fire left four units in the building uninhabitable. Residents who were displaced from their homes were provided assistance with temporary housing by the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, fire officials said.
