The Arizona Winds presents “Music for a Festival” The Arizona Winds Concert Band continues its 2021-2022 performance season on Sunday, April 10th at 3:00 p.m. in the beautiful Vista Center for the Performing Arts in Surprise. The concert, titled “Music for a Festival”, will feature a wide variety of exciting selections from contemporary symphonic band literature to television and movie scores. “This performance will highlight music programmed for the band’s first-ever appearance at the prestigious Association of Concert Bands National Convention in Santa Fe, NM on May 6th”, stated the band’s Music Director and Conductor, Lieutenant Colonel, USAF (Ret.) Rich Shelton. “The Arizona Winds is one of only four bands selected for this honor from a national pool of applicants through a rigorous review and audition process”. We’re very proud to represent Arizona at a national event attended by hundreds of musicians who continue their life-long musical journeys in community bands across the country”, continued Shelton. Music selections will include excerpts from Henry Mancini’s musical score to the 1959 television series Mr. Lucky; John Williams’ title theme from the 2019 World War II movie “Midway”; the theme song from the 1994 epic western “Legends of the Fall”, composed by James Horner; Dmitri Shostakovich’s rousing 20th Century classic Festive Overture; two exciting and challenging contemporary band works that will be on the band’s Santa Fe program, Galactic Empires and Midnight on Main Street; along with other works guaranteed to please all those in attendance. Arizona Winds concerts will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the Vista Center for the Arts, 15802 N. Parkview Place, Surprise, and are free and open to the public. Doors open at 2:00.
