Description

LISLE, IL — Lisle police say they have received multiple reports of a phone scam in which the caller claims to be with the Lisle Police Department and requests gift cards as payment to clear up an arrest warrant. According to police, the callers often use scare tactics to demand a prepaid gift card or Green Dot debit card. The callers also use personal information to attempt to fool their victims into thinking the call is legitimate. This can include: Referencing legal matters in which the victim may be associated;Identifying themselves by the name of an actual Lisle Police Department employee, typically using the title of officer or lieutenantSpoofing the caller ID so that it appears as though the call is originating from the Lisle Police or Village of Lisle. Lisle police remind residents that they will never request or accept a gift card or prepaid debit card as payment. If you are targeted by such a phone call, police suggest calling 911 to report the fraud.
