SALEM, MA — The Salem Police Department will begin its re-accreditation process starting early next month.
Chief Lucas Miller said the assessors from the Massachusetts Accreditation Commission are scheduled to arrive in Salem on April 5 to examine the department's policies and procedures, operations and facilities.
The department must meet all applicable mandatory standards as well as 60 percent of the optional standards. The Salem Police Department was initially accredited in 2013 and reaccredited in 2016 and 2019.
Miller said achieving accreditation is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.
Those interested in learning more about this program are invited to call Lt. Robert Lubas, the department's accreditation manager, at 978-744-0171 Ext. 50263.
