Here are the top three stories today in Buffalo: Early Sunday morning, a Buffalo State College student died in an off-campus shooting on Bird Avenue. Buffalo police report the 19-year-old man, who was shot inside a home, was transported to ECMC and later pronounced dead. Though authorities did not publicly identify the victim, Buffalo State College President Katherine S. Conway-Turner identified the victim as freshman Royden Cave in a message to the Buffalo State community. (WKBW 7 News Buffalo)A Buffalo prep school is hosting the grand opening of its free grocery store for students in need. The Good Deed Grocery at PS 198, the International Preparatory High School at Grover Cleveland, provides students access to personal care items for free inside the school. The store has been open since September 2021 but will have its official grand opening on Mar. 22; students are asking for help in obtaining funds and partnerships. (Step Out Buffalo) As COVID cases in Erie County have dropped and continue to remain low, the U.S. military medical team stationed at Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) will end its mission. The group of approximately 20 members, who had been assisting ECMC since January, completed their last day of service on Friday. At the time of publication, the hospital has fewer than 15 COVID patients — down significantly from the 124 patients in the hospital when their mission began on Jan. 7.
