BETHEL, CT — Gas prices in the Bethel area hit a new record on Wednesday — and have continued to climb.
As of Sunday, the average price for a gallon of gas in Connecticut is $4.47, up about a nickel since mid-week, and 86 cents from a month ago, according to the Automobile Association of America.
In Fairfield County, you can now consider yourself lucky if that's all you pay. The average price for a gallon of regular in these parts is about $4.53.
In Bethel proper, expect to pay a little less, even though the price for the least expensive gallon of gas in town climbed 60 cents in the past week.
According to GasBuddy, the cheapest gas in the area is selling for $4.27 per gallon at CITGO, 77 Greenwood Avenue.

Motorists can expect to pay more so long as the price of crude oil rises, AAA Northeast spokesman Fran Mayko said in a statement.
Gas mileage decreases rapidly when a vehicle is traveling more than 60 mph, according to AAA. Properly inflated tires can improve gas mileage by more than 3 percent per tire.
