MANCHESTER, NH - A 20-inch water main on a major roadway in Manchester broke at approx 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. Water flowed into the street at a rate of 15,000 gallons per minute causing roadways to buckle, and houses to be flooded. Thousands of people from across Manchester reported no water, or low pressure. Five Manchester schools were forced to close for the day. They included Southside, Jewett St School, Manchester School of Technology, and Memorial High School. Mammoth Rd and Candia Rd both major entries to Manchester affected commuters trying to enter or leave Manchester. Manchester fire responded to multiple fire alarms throughout the city due to the drop in water pressure. Manchester Water Works is on scene and will begin repairs. The repair will be a significant project, and take hours to complete.
