DELAWARE COUNTY, PA—A driver has been charged with aggravated assault after Pennsylvania State Police say he struck a trooper with his vehicle and led law enforcement on a high-speed chase. On Friday at 3:26 a.m., troopers said they attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the driver of a Chevrolet Camaro for speeding on I-95 southbound through a manned construction zone. According to troopers, the driver, 38-year-old Diwani Knight of Delaware, refused to stop and took off quickly from officers. Troopers said they chased after Knight and utilized the Precision Immobilization (PIT) Technique to bring his car to a stop. Knight, however, continued to drive towards the troopers. That's when troopers said one of them discharged their state-issued firearm and struck the tire of Knight's car. The fleeing car struck the trooper's patrol vehicle multiple times, State Police said. Knight then fled northbound on I-95 and exited onto Exit 3 where he crashed his car at the botton of the off-ramp. Troopers said following the crash, Knight fled on foot; however, he was quickly arrested. According to troopers, Knight was found to be under the influence of alcohol and submitted to a blood test. Neither Knight nor any troopers suffered any injuries, State Police said.
