Description

Press release from the City of Hoboken: March 11, 2022 The City of Hoboken, in partnership with the Hoboken Relief Fund and non-profit Welcome Home, launched the Rent For Refugees campaign to provide housing for Ukrainian refugees living in Hoboken's adopted sister city Białystok, Poland.   The campaign provides housing assistance to refugees who have fled Ukraine providing them with furnished apartments. A furnished apartment for five people is approximately $450 a month.   "It's incumbent upon us to always remember that even though these horrific and tragic events are happening far away, it impacts us right here in Hoboken," said Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. "We have an obligation as not just Americans, but as global citizens, to speak up and show our solidarity with the people of Ukraine. They are pleading for our help, and we must act."   The campaign followed the City of Hoboken's Ukrainian flag-raising ceremony in which over 100 residents, neighbors, Ukrainian-Americans, elected officials, and Hoboken Clergy Coalition members joined together to stand in solidarity with war-torn Ukraine and call for peace.   To learn more about the Rent For Refugees campaign and to donate, go to https://welcomehomerefugees.org/campaigns/hoboken/.   This press release was produced by the City of Hoboken.
