Man Shot Dead While Driving In Delco Last Week, Gunmen Sought

CHESTER, PA — Authorities in Delaware County as asking for help identifying the person who shot and killed a 26-year-old man last week in Chester. The Delaware County District Attorneys' Office and the Chester Police Department are seeking the community's assistance in connection with the murder of Timothy David Hamler. Hamler, 26 of Chester City, was shot and killed on Monday, September 14 at West Carla's Lane & John Street in Chester. Right before Hamler's shooting, a shooting occurred at W. Carla's Lane. & John Street. Video from the second shooting shows a gray Dodge Durango with a temporary paper Delaware tag. The vehicle and its occupants are suspects in Hamler's murder. At about 6 p.m. on the day of the murder, Chester Police Department officers were called to the 1400 block of Congress Street for a report of shots fired. While they were on their way, officers heard gunfire coming from the area of Ninth and Tilghman streets. Shortly after they showed up, officers saw that a vehicle collision had occurred in the 1800 block of West Ninth Street. Two vehicles were found in the eastbound lanes and appeared to have hit head on. Hamler was found in his vehicle, a 2008 dark blue Chevrolet Impala, with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics from Crozer Chester Medical Center treated the victim at the site. He was taken to Crozer Chester Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries. Investigation revealed that Hamler was driving West on Ninth Street at Edwards where he was fired upon, causing him to jump over the concrete median into the eastbound lanes striking a vehicle head on. Upon searching the area, officers discovered numerous crime scenes including in the area of John Street and Carla's Lane, as well as in the area of Ninth and Carla's Lane that expanded to the area of Ninth and Yarnell streets.
