MANCHESTER, NH — The New Hampshire Fire Marshal's Office and Manchester police and firefighters are investigating an explosion reported at a homeless camp that killed one person on Saturday. Workers at a business on Willow Street near Pine Street heard what they described as "loud popping noises, sounding like gunfire or small explosions," just after 1 p.m. According to the witnesses, they went to the area of the explosion sounds to investigate and found a tent in an area occupied by some homeless campers as well as a small fire. The Manchester Fire Department was dispatched a few minutes later for a small outside fire in the rear of the address. The Manchester police log online indicated officers were dispatched to the area behind Motorcycles of Manchester on Willow Street for a deceased person. This is in the same area of the homeless camp. Manchester police detectives arrived at the scene around 2 p.m. with the crime van and fire investigators. Manchester police investigated a death of a 40-year-old male earlier this week, the individual was found deceased under the Bridge Street bridge at a homeless camp. Londonderry NH Patch will update as more information becomes available.
