The organization has recently increased wages for the lifeguards with wages now at $16.44 an hour. The system uses two new apps that parents can download onto their phones. The system is a partnership between Grand Rapids Public Schools and Dean Transportation. (MLive.com)A Grand Rapids cat was rescued and revived by fire crews on Thursday. Grand Rapids Fire Department crews responded to the 600 block of Parkwood Street NE to find a cat inside a two-story smoke-filled home. The crews administered oxygen to the animal and took it to a local animal hospital for treatment.
