Press release from the City of Monrovia: December 07, 2020 Hello Monrovians, With many changes occurring over the weekend, this special update is comprised of those changes to keep the community informed. As of December 5, the LA County Department of Public Health announced that the Southern California Region has 12.5% staffed adult ICU capacity remaining. With ICU capacity falling below 15%, the Regional Stay Home Order went into effect and will remain in effect for at least three weeks in LA County. The Department of Public Health has revised the Targeted Temporary Safer at Home Health Officer Order for Control of COVID-19, which you can read additional details below. Due to the Order, effective immediately, the City will be suspending parking enforcement activities except for illegal parking considered a hazard or danger to the public such as blocking a fire hydrant, parking in a red zone, or parking in a designated ADA stall. Please continue to be mindful of your street sweeping and trash pick-up schedules, as those services will continue. Sincerely, Dylan Email: [email protected] Phone: (626) 932-5585 Highlights in this Issue Revised Targeted Temporary Safer at Home Health Officer Order SoCal Edison Public Safety Power Shut Off LA County Department of Mental Health Service Area Revised Targeted Temporary Safer at Home Health Officer Order As COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations surge and ICU capacity declines in Los Angeles County and across the Southern California Region, the Los Angeles County Health Officer Order has been modified to align with the State Regional Stay Home Order to prevent crowding and mingling among non-household members and overwhelming our healthcare system. The Revised Targeted Temporary Safer at Home Health Officer Order for Control of COVID-19, went into effect in Los Angeles County on Sunday night at 11:59 p.m., and will go to at least 11:59 p.m. (PST) on December 27. The Order prohibits private gatherings of any size, closes sector operations, and requires 100% masking and physical distancing. A list of the businesses, recreational sites, commercial properties, and activities, which are closed, are listed on page six of the Revised Temporary Order. To align and comply with the State's Regional Stay Home Order, in addition to the businesses that were already closed, the Health Officer orders the closure of the following: Family entertainment centers for all activities - this includes (but is not limited to) closure of miniature golf, go-karts, and batting cages Indoor and outdoor playgrounds Museums, zoos, and aquariums Personal Care Services, including (but not limited to) closure of hair salons and barbershops Cardrooms This order may be extended beyond December 27, 2020 if the projections of the Southern California Region's total available adult ICU bed capacity is less than 15%. Everyone in Los Angeles County should remain at their homes and with members of their household as much as possible. Even if you don't feel sick, being around people outside your household is extremely risky. Avoid doing any activities that are not essential. Always wear a face covering whenever outside your home, keep your distance from others not in your household, wash your hands frequently, and avoid crowds. Individuals with underlying health conditions and those that are older should remain in their home and not be around others unless seeking routine or essential health care. Please contact your health care provider to schedule essential care, as these services remain open and can be utilized safely. If you are having difficulty breathing, go to an emergency room or call 911. SoCal Edison Public Safety Power Shutoffs With forecasted Santa Ana wind conditions across Southern California from now through tomorrow evening, SoCal Edison (SCE) is currently monitoring the need to make Public Safety Power Shutoffs across their service territory where they believe the wind and their power infrastructure may create possible fire risks. As of now, SCE has more than 155,000 customers on the consideration list (46,000 in LA County) and currently have power off to about 10,000 customers, mostly in Kern and northern Los Angeles Counties. There is a possibility that a portion of Monrovia may be included in these outages should the Arboretum circuit be shutdown, which is outlined on the map. The area of impact is roughly to the West of Mayflower from the Hillside Wilderness Preserve to about Colorado Boulevard. SCE customers in the possible shut down area have been notified. At this point, the forecasts for winds here in town are in the mid-20s overnight tonight and back to below 10 mph tomorrow; however, the decisions for these shutdowns will based more upon wind speeds in the mountains and canyons behind Monrovia. LA County Department of Mental Health With the rise in stress due to the COVID-19 crisis, mental health illnesses began to rise, as well. For people suffering from mental health illnesses, there are services and resources available 24/7. You are not alone. To assist with locating services in Monrovia, the LA County Department of Mental Health has published a Service Area Navigator's contacts list. Monrovia is located in the third service area.
