Description

Do you love animals AND people? Well then the Humane Society of Harford County is looking for you! We employ talented and dedicated animal welfare professionals in all areas of the shelter, and we are looking to expand our team! We are an award-winning, open-admission, nonprofit, progressive animal shelter and take in approximately 3,000-3,500 animals a year of all species, including dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, reptiles, rodents, farm animals, and even fish! We are especially interested in candidates that are multi-lingual, particularly if you are fluent in Spanish and/or American Sign Language! Being on the animal care team is a very physically demanding job, but also so rewarding! Some experience with handling and caring for animals is required (either personal or professional), and these skills will be assessed. It’s an extra bonus if you have experience with farm animals or exotic pets! Animal Care Technicians Although they try to operate behind the scenes, the results of our animal care techs’ work is seen everywhere. This team is responsible for keeping the animals’ living and play areas clean and tidy, providing enrichment, feeding and watering, and and are often the first to notice if an animal at the shelter might be having a problem. Because they interact with the animals every day, they get to know them very well! Animal care techs work closely with other departments and our volunteers to make sure our shelter pets are happy and healthy during their time with us. Animal Care Assistants Are you a self-professed neat freak who’s not afraid to roll up your sleeves and get a little dirty? If so, you might be the shelter’s next Animal Care Assistant. Your primary responsibilities will include cleaning and sanitizing the animals’ living spaces; providing food, water and bedding; doing laundry; and working closely with other team members to ensure the animals receive top-notch care. All candidates must be 18 or older, pass a pre-employment drug screening, comply with random drug testing, possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, have an excellent work ethic, be able to work effectively under high stress, and handle an emotionally and physically demanding work environment. Full time employees are offered excellent employer-paid health/vision/dental benefits, a SIMPLE retirement plan with 3% match after two years of service, employer-paid short/long term disability benefits, employer-paid life and AD&D benefits, paid vacation and sick and safe leave, and seven paid holidays. Part time employees are offered 40 hours of sick and safe leave. All employees are eligible for our employee of the month program, staff appreciation events, and multiple continuing education and professional development opportunities throughout the year. We also have a Gym Reimbursement Program, and an Employee Referral Program! Entry level positions generally begin at $14-16 an hour, and increase based on education and/or experience, and all wages are competitive with area industry standards, which are reviewed annually. On top of all that, we’re a bunch of fun and dynamic folks who love our jobs and get to help animals and people for a living! What’s better than that!?
