MISSION VIEJO, CA — Orange County Fire Authority Firefighters were hard at work Monday in neighborhoods across south Orange County. Two respective fires broke out inside garages, according to reports. In one home, a family dog alerted his humans of the blaze at hand, officials say.
At 6:30 a.m., firefighters arrived to find the garage of a 27000 block of Pinuela home fully engulfed in flames, OCFA reported.
"Firefighters made an aggressive attack on the garage fire," OCFA Capt. Thanh Nugyen reported. "They prevented the flames from spreading into the house."
Though the family dog's barking alerted them of the blaze, they were unable to find him as they fled a house filling with smoke. OCFA firefighters searched the home, and found the dog, Teddy, hiding inside.
The family of four who lived here were displaced, and are being assisted by the Red Cross.
A second house fire erupted midday in Laguna Niguel on the 28000 block of Vista Ladera.
"This was a fast-moving fire in a garage that extended into the house," Nguyen said.
Firefighters battled the stubborn blaze for 40 minutes before they could knock it down.
