MISSION VIEJO, CA — Behind those kind brown eyes and floppy ears, there is a focused determination that only a Bloodhound lover can understand. On Wednesday, Remi, Orange County Sheriff's Department's cherished K9 officer, set her sights on finding a missing Mission Viejo woman.
A husband called in his missing wife after 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department Mission Viejo Police Services.
A 70-year-old woman wandered away from her home, they reported. After searching the house and neighborhood for hours, they asked for help from the sheriff's department.
Deputies requested both air and ground support to find her, as well as a bloodhound.
While Duke Helicopter circled above homes near Jeronimo Road and Alicia Parkway from the air, Deputy Assayag and Remi worked the ground.
When they neared a silver Lexus with dark-tinted windows, Remi alerted her handler to look inside the parked car.
"Remi stopped, pressed her nose against the car door," according to Deputy Assayag.
This could only mean good news.
Assayag discovered that the missing woman was in the unlocked car's passenger seat that was not owned by anyone her family knew.
"Deputies confirmed the missing woman was in the front passenger seat," according to Mission Viejo Police Services. They brought her home to her family.
