MALVERN, PA — The owner of Malvern's Scoops 'N' Smiles ice cream is teaming up with one of his former teachers to offer free books to customers. Akain Rowland, a Navy veteran and owner of the popular Malvern ice cream spot, is joining up with his former teacher, author Dr. Robert F. DeFinis this weekend. DeFinis just published his first children's book "How to Defeat the Icky, Filthy, Creepy, Slimy CORONA MONSTER!" Anyone who makes a menu purchase at Scoops 'N' Smiles Sunday will get a free digital copy of the book, which introduces children to COVID-19 and discuses healthy habits that they can do on their own. "On Sunday we want people to take a moment for themselves, and also acknowledging our wonderful teachers by stopping by and supporting a local business and receiving this ebook with a critical message," DeFinis said. Akain and Both first met while Akain was taking Business Classes at the Lansdale School of Business. According to DeFinis, he and Akain have a "social entrepreneurship" spirit; the idea that doing business and good for the community can coexist. Scoops 'N' Smiles is located at 327 E. King St. in Malvern.
