Knowing which bird we are looking at can enhance our appreciation of nature. Learn about the wading birds of Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge We focus on the big birds. Easy to see but often difficult to identify, especially the ones that change color as they age like the little blue heron below! Everyone enjoys looking at birds but knowing what kind of bird it is can increases our sense of connection with nature. Go beyond body color to observe bill shape & color, leg & foot color and feeding techniques that are important clues to wading bird identification. Or just come to enjoy photos of the magnificent bird life of Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge. Please allow about 20 minutes to drive from the Visitor Center parking lot to the Cross-dike trail. Park on the right near the restrooms then walk about 100 yards along the Cross-dike trail to the pavilion. Arrive at the Cross Dike Pavilion located on the Cross Dike Trail (entrance fee applies) by 1:20pm to check in and confirm your attendance. This tour is limited to 10 individuals and sign ups are required. If you do not arrive by 1:20, your spot may be given to someone else. *Need to cancel your ticket? No problem. Please use the Eventbrite portal to do so at your earliest convenience.
