Did you know that the men of Exeter voted on whether they should allow women to vote in presidential elections... all the way back in 1903? Guess what the outcome was? Better than you may think; but not quite enough. (Answer will be at the end.) The Women's Suffrage question was posed to every NH town via a State-wide referendum for March 1903, so the ladies of Exeter got busy organizing. One of the things they did was to invite a famous speaker to come to the Exeter Town Hall. Famed suffragist Elizabeth Cady-Stanton had just died, two months prior, but her daughter came. Vassar graduate Mrs. Harriot Stanton-Blatch spoke on Friday night, February 27th.
