EXETER, NH — Two people were sent to the hospital Tuesday after a truck crash in Exeter, according to New Hampshire State Police. Around 1:45 p.m., troopers were sent to a commercial truck crash on Route 101 in Exeter. When they arrived, they found a 2007 Mack dump truck had left the road, traveled down an embankment, and overturned. The truck, according to Lt. John Hennessey, was being driven by a 71-year-old man from Billerica, Massachusetts. Mechanical failure, Hennessey said, caused the vehicle to leave the highway. The driver was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. At the same time the truck was having mechanical failure, a Rockingham County Sheriff's deputy was making a motor vehicle stop and was nearly struck by the truck as it ran off the road, Hennessey said. That deputy was taken to Exeter Hospital with minor injuries. "The right lane and the break down lane of Route 101 just east of Exit 11 were closed for approximately three hours while troopers conducted their investigation and crews worked to remove the vehicle," Hennessey said. State police were assisted by sheriffs, the Exeter Fire Department, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, and New England Truck Center. This crash remains under investigation by Trooper John DeJesus. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact DeJesus at [email protected]. Got a news tip? Send it to [email protected].
