Join Karen Buchanan on a 2.7-mile History Hike from the Ferry Building along Herb Caen Way, up the Filbert Street Steps to the top of Telegraph Hill, then down to North Beach and Jackson Square, along the original shoreline of Yerba Buena Cove, then back to the Embarcadero. Learn about Victor Arnautoff, supervising artist for the Coit Tower WPA murals, learn where all the Gold Rush ships are buried, and much more. Walk down the shortest street in San Francisco, and hear tales of the Old Barbary Coast. Learn why Hotaling's Whiskey survived the 1906 Earthquake and Fire. Get educated, exercised and entertained. This is a fairly strenuous hike with steep hills and 500 steps to climb to the top of Telegraph Hill. The hike is dog- and kid-friendly. East Bay members can take the ferry over to San Francisco.
