You're devoted to her, but she hasn't wanted to be touched in years. You run your fingers along the skin of her arm and she tenses, you try to kiss her neck and she bolts. Asking her to talk about her troubled past makes her seem like she wants to zip open her skin and dissolve into the night. You adore her, put in long hours to allow her to stay home and sink deeper into her private world, but none of it will ever lead to the simplest affection, a thank-you, a kind word or definitely not any kind of touch.
