MALVERN, PA — A Malvern man has been arrested after shooting and killing a 28-year-old in Montgomery County Sunday night, authorities said Monday afternoon.
Kether Opitimus Massiaz, 22, of Malvern, and Wendell Allison-Haulcey, 28, of King of Prussia, exchanged multiple shots while running around the area of 400 block of West Glenside Avenue in Cheltenham at about 9 p.m. Sunday, officials said.
Police responded to the area by 9:12 p.m. and found Allison-Haulcey suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to ABington Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead.
Minutes later, at 9:14 p.m., Massiaz was located at a nearby 7-11, on 362 Easton Road, bleeding from the head, police said.
An investigation, using interviews from several eyewitnesses and doorbell cameras, connected Massiaz to the shooting, according to authorities.
"Even in the midst of the emergent situation with COVID-19, our law enforcement personnel are on the job working to keep everyone safe every day and to handle these crimes as they occur in Montgomery County," DA Kevin Steele said in a statement.
Massiaz was charged with first and third degree murder, and possessing an instrument of crime. No bail is available for murder charges, and Massiaz was taken to Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
A preliminary hearing is set for March 30.
