WALLINGFORD, CT — The Lyman Hall and Sheehan hockey teams both advanced to the CIAC Division II state tournament semifinals with quarterfinal victories on Friday night.
The second-seeded Trojans edged No. 10 Woodstock 4-3 in overtime at the Koeppel Community Sports Center in Hartford. Jack Roberts scored with 7 minutes, 40 seconds remaining in overtime to lift Lyman Hall to the victory, according to the Record-Journal.
Lyman Hall (18-4) will take on No. 3 Wethersfield (15-5-2) in the semifinals on Tuesday, March 15.
Fourth-seeded Sheehan shut out No. 5 Farmington Valley 5-0 in its quarterfinal matchup at the Newington Ice Arena.
The Titans received a scare when sophomore Landon Cantele received a hard check from behind and went down on the ice for 20 minutes, the Record-Journal reported.
Cantele suffered a "whiplash" neck injury and the opposing player was assessed a five-minute major and was disqualified from the game, according to the Record-Journal.
Max Festa scored two goals and had two assists to lead Sheehan.
"Very proud of the way the Titan Hockey Team came together & rallied after a scary moment when one of their brothers went down on the ice... 6-0 final & on to the semis... and more importantly, Landon is going to be ok," reads a post on the Sheehan Athletics Twitter page.
Sheehan (18-4) will take on top-seeded North Haven (20-2) on Tuesday, March 15.
