BOSTON — Boston police are searching for at least two suspects who are accused of fleeing with stolen items after a car slammed into a luxury store on Newbury Street in Boston Friday morning. Officers responded to the Chanel store on Newbury Street just around 4:30 a.m. to find a car had driven through the front of the building, breaking the glass front door and gate, and landed inside, police said. At least twenty pocketbooks were taken from the store, Boston police confirmed. "It was pretty well planned," Sergeant Detective John Boyle, a department spokesman told the Boston Globe Friday, adding that police do not yet know if the suspects are part of an organized group of thieves who specialize in robbing luxury stores. No one was inside the car or building when police got there, officers said but added that at least two people were seen fleeing the store with items before running into an idling Jeep nearby. "The getaway SUV was seen heading towards Massachusetts Avenue from the store," Boyle said. No injuries were reported and so far, no arrests have been made, but the building suffered substantial structural damage, according to the Boston Fire Department. As of Friday afternoon, there was no estimated dollar amount of what was taken from the store. Police say an investigation is ongoing and no further information was immediately available.
