Join Memphis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for the inaugural BEST OF ME 5K FUN RUN / WALK. We cordially invite you to participate in the Inaugural Best of Me 5K Fun Run/Walk. This event will raise money to benefit the Memphis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated Maggie McDowell Scholarship Fund. The Memphis Alumnae Chapter just celebrated 85th year of existence. We have been on the forefront of public/community service and social action issues, allowing us to become transformational leaders through mentorship and offering scholarship opportunities to support educational advancement. Over the past 10 years, the Memphis Alumnae Chapter has raised over $250,000 to provide scholarships to a diverse range of deserving students. The coronavirus pandemic has caused a damaging and everlasting effect on the economy; in continuous efforts to improve and increase our scholarship giving, we need your help. The event will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Shelby Farms Hyde Park Pavilion. The event will kick off at 7:45 with music and a warm-up. The Best of Me 5K Fun Run/Walk will start at 8:00 am. Awards will be given to the top qualifiers of the 5K. Race participants will receive a swag bag and be eligible for giveaways. If you have any questions about this race, please contact the race organizer at [email protected] COVID-19 PRECAUTIONARY GUIDELINES: Registration: Volunteers & race personnel will wear masks and gloves at all times. Hand sanitizer and gloves will be available for volunteers and participants. In-person race registration will have multiple registration areas so distancing can be maintained. Bathrooms/Porta potties: Hand sanitizing & porta potties stations available. Start line protocol: We will use a starting mat and incorporate socially-distanced starts for all participants. Water stations: Extra tables will be used to spread out the area. Volunteers will wear gloves and masks at all times, including while initially filling cups and picking them up. Cups will be spread out to avoid touching. Volunteers will NOT hand cups to participants. Finish area protocol: Volunteers will wear masks and gloves in the finish area at all times. Participants and supporters will not be allowed to congregate in the area. Medals will be lying on the table for participants to pick up once they cross the finish line. This area will be monitored by race personnel and volunteers. Post-race food protocol: We will encourage participants to pick up their snacks, re-mask, and disperse as soon as possible. Announcements will be made periodically during all events to remind all attendees to practice social distancing. Masks and social distancing will be strictly enforced, as we will to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
