MALVERN, PA — Malvern Bank's customers and employees brought non-perishable foods to Bank branches from July through September and the bank also made a cash donation matching the value of the food. The donations will benefit one of the largest hunger relief agencies in Chester County, the West Chester Food Cupboard. The West Chester Food Cupboard reported it served 578 households each month in the last year. July through September, Malvern Bank collected non-perishable food items from customers and employees. Malvern Bank now has donated the 195 pounds of food gathered through its food drive, along with the matching cash donation. Malvern Bank, National Association, the wholly owned subsidiary of Malvern Bancorp, Inc. said it aims to be actively involved in the communities it serves, which is the hallmark of a true community bank. "Malvern Bank is proud to contribute to the West Chester Food Cupboard during this time of great need in our community," said Malvern Bank President and CEO Anthony C. Weagley. "The Food Cupboard is a volunteer-run organization that provides a vital service to residents in Chester County." West Chester Food Cupboard's Board President Joseph Fratinardo thanked the bank. "Thanks to the generous support of the community and businesses like Malvern Bank, we served 626 households a month and provided 1.2 million pounds of food and personal care items to those in need during the past year." Volunteers and community support are the keys to helping the Food Cupboard fulfill its mission, he added. "Malvern Bank has supported the West Chester Food Cupboard's mission for years, and we are so grateful for their support," said Fratinardo. "We could not help those in need without the support of our local community and businesses." West Chester Food Cupboard's motto is "Because no one should go hungry!" It was started in 2009 out of the need that arose when Chester County Cares closed. In 2012 it received non-profit status. It is completely volunteer-staffed.
