MILWAUKEE, WI — Persistent COVID-19 hospital admissions subsided in many Wisconsin communities, and most counties show "low" levels of spread, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data showed March 11. In Wisconsin, only 7 counties have "medium" COVID-19 community spread, and the remaining 65 counties have "low" community spread, according to federal data. Across the state, there were seven virus-related deaths Wednesday, and the seven-day average of deaths per day was eight deaths per day, according to health services data. There have been 12,247 COVID-19 deaths since the pandemic hit Wisconsin two years ago, health services data showed. The CDC's new indicators for "low," "medium" and "high" community levels depend on coronavirus patients entering hospitals and how many beds they occupy in a given county. The levels are based on how many new cases per 100,000 occurred in the past seven days. The CDC introduced new county metrics when the federal government loosened its masking guidelines on Feb. 25.
