LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Sheriff's office announced Friday morning the results of the 2019 holiday "Drive Sober or get Pulled Over" traffic safety campaign. From Dec. 16 through Jan. 2, the sheriff's office partnered with the Illinois Department of Transportation and law enforcement agencies across the state in showing zero tolerance for impaired driving. As a result of the campaign, the sheriff's office said they arrested six intoxicated motorists, in addition to several other enforcement actions:
47 seat belt citations19 speeding citations8 distracted driving citations In total, the sheriff's office said 123 citations were issued during that period.
"We cannot stress it enough: impaired driving is deadly and illegal behavior, it puts everyone on the roadway at risk," Sheriff John Idleburg said, in the news release. "Our sheriff's deputies work very hard to keep the roadways safe for all, but driving sober is everyone's responsibility."
The Illinois "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation with federal highway safety funds managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to the sheriff's office.
