PRINCETON, NJ — An Animal Control Officer was called to a wooded area in Princeton to help rescue a "beautiful parrot in a tree."
Only it turns out that the beautiful parrot was actually a fake ceramic decorative.
On Wednesday, a "concerned citizen" contacted the Princeton department to report a beautiful parrot in a tree in the wooded area near Einstein Drive, police said.
The caller sent a photograph of the bird he took using his cell phone. The caller said he did not want to get too close as he thought the bird might fly away, according to the police.
Animal Control Officer Jim Ferry quickly responded and "cautiously approached the beautiful bird as it was perched in a tree."
As he got near, he noticed the parrot did not appear frightened. It was then that Ferry realized the bird was actually a "decorative ceramic parrot."
Princeton police posted the incident on Facebook, much to the amusement of residents. The post has garnered hundreds of likes, comments and shares.
"If anyone is missing this beautiful decorative ceramic parrot, please contact our department where he is being lovingly cared for," police said.
