Proposal Would Replace Garden Catering Building With Housing

GREENWICH, CT — A proposal submitted to the Greenwich Planning & Zoning Commission would replace the Garden Catering building on Hamilton Avenue with a 10-unit housing complex, multiple news outlets reported. A "pre-application review" for the proposal has been submitted, and the commission's website says the project would adhere to a Connecticut General Statute that promotes the development of affordable housing. Developers would set aside three of the 10 units for affordable housing, the Greenwich Time reported. The property is located at the intersection of 177 Hamilton Ave./15 Grand St., and the Greenwich Time reported that developers seek to tear down the Garden Catering building and replace it with the apartment complex. The site also has a two-family home made up of a one-bedroom, one-bathroom unit and a four-bedroom, two-bathroom unit, the Greenwich Free Press reported, that would be town down as well. Garden Catering, known for its white meat chicken nuggets, has been in Greenwich for around two decades. The restaurant was heavily damaged in a December 2014 fire, and it reopened in March 2016.
