Press release from the University of Texas at El Paso: MC Staff March 11, 2022 UTEP Marketing and Communications The University of Texas at El Paso and The University of Texas System will use information from a survey of freshmen and seniors to create opportunities for students that promote success in college and after earning a degree. Eligible first-year and senior students received an email invitation from UTEP President Heather Wilson in February with instructions on how to access the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), which will be open through the spring semester. Students also may access it by logging in at my.utep.edu and looking for the NSSE logo on the right side of the screen. The survey should only take about 15 minutes to complete. UTEP and UT System leaders will use the information collected in the survey to shape opportunities that promote student success in college and after earning a degree. UTEP has participated in the NSSE for more than a decade. Research has shown that student participation in high-impact practices (HIPs) is associated with retention and graduation. Examples of HIPs include service-learning experiences and internships as well as research, scholarly and creative activities with faculty members. The NSSE provides University administrators and faculty with a way to gauge participation and awareness of HIPs to ensure students take full advantage of these opportunities. For technical assistance, contact [email protected]. For questions about how UTEP will use the results, contact UTEP's Center for Institutional Evaluation, Research and Planning at [email protected].
