LAKE COUNTY, IL — One more elementary school district in Lake County has opted to start the school year remotely and another is poised to vote to do the same Tuesday. Mundelein Elementary District 75 announced all students will be learning online when school gets back in session this month. Students in grades first through eight will start school on Aug. 27 and kindergarten students will begin on Aug. 31. A final remote learning plan will be reviewed at an Aug. 18 school board meeting, according to a statement on the District 75 website. Meanwhile, the Diamond Lake District 76 school board is expected to vote Tuesday on a recommendation to start school remotely as well. The new plan reverses course on an original plan presented to the board on July 21. In that plan, district officials recommended in-person and remote learning as options, according to the District 76 website. In recent weeks, several elementary school districts in the county and across the Chicago suburbs have opted out of in-person instruction for the start of the school year as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Illinois. Last week, District 70 in Libertyville opted to open its "e-school" on Aug. 24. The school district had originally considered letting families pick between in-person and remote learning but ultimately decided to start with remote learning instead. D70 Opts For Remote LearningHawthorn District 73 also announced last week it would begin school with remote learning.
