SAN MATEO, CA — Three San Mateo schools were placed in a "secure campus situation" on Thursday while police sought a nearby carjacking suspect, San Mateo police told Patch.
Laurel School, Hillsdale High School, and Abbott Middle School were all asked to stay in the school while detectives looked for a carjacking suspect at-large near the school, SMPD spokesperson Alison Gilmore told Patch. Gilmore also said that the school is avoiding using the phrase "lockdown", which refers to a situation where students are in greater danger.
The situation started in the morning, and ended just after 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Gilmore said. Gilmore also said that the suspect is still at-large.
Patch is awaiting further information from the San Mateo-Foster City SChool District.
