SAN DIEGO, CA — Authorities Thursday publicly identified a man who was fatally stabbed last month during an argument in a Talmadge-area alley.
Patrol officers responding to a report of an assault in the 4500 block of Altadena Avenue shortly after 7 p.m. Feb. 20 found 30-year-old Ramiro Arellano Jr. sitting in his car, bleeding from stab wounds to his chest and lower body, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Paramedics took the victim to a trauma center, where he was admitted in critical condition, SDPD Lt. Jud Campbell said.
Investigators determined that the victim was quarreling with two people in the access road when one of them stabbed him and fled, according to police.
Detectives soon identified the suspected killer as 50-year-old Lee Willis Bender. He was arrested Feb. 23 on North Second Street in El Cajon and booked on suspicion of attempted murder.
The next day, the hospitalized victim succumbed to his injuries. Bender has since been charged with murder. He remains jailed without bail pending trial.
Police have not disclosed what might have led to the dispute that prompted the stabbing.
