Flames Fully Engulf, Destroy Algonquin Home During Morning Fire

From the Lake & McHenry County Scanner By Sam Borcia A fire quickly spread through an Algonquin house Thursday morning and fully engulfed the structure as firefighters were hampered by water issues. The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District, McHenry County Sheriff's Office and Algonquin Police Department responded around 6:12 a.m. Thursday to the 200 block of East Riverview Drive in Algonquin for a structure fire. A person who was nearby noticed the roof was on fire and called 911, according to John Greene, a battalion chief for the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District. Firefighters arrived in six minutes and found heavy flames coming from the single-story single-family residence. The structure quickly became fully engulfed in fire. Greene said that crews were inhibited by the lack of fire hydrants. The residence was under renovation at the time of the fire. The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to the second alarm to bring water tender trucks to the scene. No firefighters, civilians or pets were injured. The cause of the fire, which took around an hour to be brought under control, is currently under investigation. A damage estimate was not immediately available. The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District was aided by the Cary Fire Protection District, Huntley Fire Protection District, Crystal Lake Fire Department, Fox River Grove Fire Protection District and numerous other fire agencies.
